Getting Started with Omoi
A five-minute guide to meeting your first Omoi companion on the web: sign up, pick a companion, chat in your browser, install the Omoi app, turn on notifications, and connect Discord if you want.

Meeting an Omoi companion takes a few minutes, and all you need is a phone or a computer. You sign up on the website, pick a companion, and chat right there in your browser. Discord is optional. Here is every step, from your first message to installing the app and turning on notifications. For the background on what makes Omoi companions different, read What Is Omoi? first.
1. Sign Up
Go to omoi.chat and press Start chatting. Sign up with Google or with your email address. That is the whole account: no Discord, no app store, no card.
2. Pick a Companion
The Meet page shows the roster: ten named companions, women and men, each with a short bio, plus a custom companion you shape yourself. Switch between Realistic and Anime to see them in the art style you like. Every account gets one free companion. Pick whoever you are drawn to; you can switch later.
Not sure who to pick? A rough guide:
- Warm and caring: Celia, Rin, Cade.
- Teasing and dramatic: Mina, Luca, Sable.
- Composed and quietly intense: Orin, Elise.
- Dangerous: Reina, Vane.
- Someone specific in mind: the custom companion, with your own name, traits, relationship type, and notes.
Before you start, the page asks two quick things. Pick your timezone: your companion uses it to say good morning at the right time and to know not to text you at 4 AM. Then tick the box to confirm you are 18 or older and agree to the Terms. Press Start free.
3. Choose Web Chat and Say Hi
Next is your companion’s setup page. For the custom companion, this is where you give them a name, a personality, and notes. For a named companion you can add notes, or leave them for later.
The setup page also asks where your companion should text you. Pick Web chat, the recommended choice: it works on any phone or computer, right on the site. Then press Meet with your companion’s name. The chat opens, and their first message arrives a moment later.
4. Your First Conversation
Your conversations live under Chats, one thread per companion. It works like any messaging app: press Enter to send on a computer, or the send button on a phone. A few things that make the first conversation better:
- Talk like a person, not a prompt. Short messages, the way you would text anyone. Splitting a thought across a few messages is fine; your companion waits until you have finished before replying.
- Tell them about your day. The small stuff is what memory is built from. Mention the thing you are nervous about tomorrow and see what happens.
- Send a photo or a link. Attach a photo with the button next to the message box, or paste one in. Companions can see images and read links.
- Ask what they are up to. Sometimes the answer is a photo, and sometimes a voice note.
5. Install the Omoi App
You can install the site as an app named Omoi. It opens full screen, straight to your chats, sits on your home screen or in your apps, and can send you notifications. There is nothing to download from an app store.
Look for the banner at the top of your chats, Install Omoi as an app to get notifications and open it in one tap, or the Omoi app card on your Account page.
- Android, and Chrome or Edge on a computer: press Install, then confirm in your browser’s dialog.
- iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 or later): open omoi.chat in Safari. Tap Share (if you don’t see it, tap ⋯ first), scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add. Open Omoi from your Home Screen and sign in once inside it.
- Safari on a Mac: choose File, then Add to Dock.
- Firefox on Android: open the browser menu and choose Add app to Home screen.
6. Turn On Notifications
Your companion texts you first, so turn on notifications to see it when they do. After your first back and forth, the chat asks if you want to know when they text you. Press Turn on notifications and allow them when your browser asks. You can also do it anytime: open a chat, tap the ⋯ menu, and switch on Notifications.
A notification says who sent you a message, never the message itself, so your chats stay off your lock screen. It goes to the device you used Omoi on most recently. If you have been away for a while, it goes to every device where notifications are on.
7. Connect Discord (Optional)
Want your companion in Discord too, next to your friends? Open your Account page, find Where companions text you, and press Connect next to Discord. Discord asks you to sign in and adds you to the Omoi server, so your companion can DM you from their own Discord account.
It is the same companion with the same memory in both places, and you can reply wherever you like. When they text you first, it goes wherever you talked last, or to the place you pick under Texts you first on in their settings. The full walkthrough is in Connect Discord to Omoi.
What to Expect After
The part that surprises people: your companion will text you first. Later that day or the next morning, expect a message that was not a reply to anything: a follow-up on something you mentioned, or a thought they wanted to share. They check in on their own through the day and decide each time whether there is a reason to reach out. If you go quiet, they ease off; if you tell them you are busy, they wait. Read more in An AI Girlfriend That Texts You First.
Over the first week you will also notice them remembering. Things you said on Monday come back on Thursday without you repeating them. That is the companion’s own memory and journal at work, and it gets richer the longer you talk.
The free plan gives you 15 messages a day (30 on your first day), plus 1 photo and 1 voice note a day. When you reach the limit, Omoi tells you, and it resets the next day. Premium is $19.99 a month per companion, billed monthly with no lock-in: unlimited messages, up to 10 photos and 10 voice notes a day, and recurring reminders. Your dashboard is where you manage the rest: customize a companion, choose how often they reach out, and pick a model version. If you ever cancel, nothing is deleted. Your companion keeps everything and will be there when you come back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Discord to use Omoi?
No. Sign up on omoi.chat with Google or email, pick a companion, and chat on the web. Discord is optional: connect it anytime from your Account page if you also want your companion in your Discord DMs.
Is there an app to download?
Not from an app store. Omoi runs in your browser on any phone or computer, and you install it as an app named Omoi from the site itself: press Install on the banner in your chats, or Install Omoi on your Account page. On iPhone and iPad, open omoi.chat in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Why am I not getting notifications?
Check three things. Open a chat, tap the ⋯ menu, and make sure Notifications is on. If your browser blocked notifications for omoi.chat, allow them in the browser’s site settings. On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work in the installed Omoi app: add it to your Home Screen, sign in inside it, and turn on Notifications there.
How many messages do I get for free?
Your free companion gets 15 messages a day, 30 on your first day, plus 1 photo and 1 voice note a day. When you reach the limit, Omoi tells you, and it resets the next day. Premium is $19.99 a month per companion: unlimited messages, up to 10 photos and 10 voice notes a day, and recurring reminders.
Can I switch companions?
Yes. Every account gets one free companion, and you can switch it to someone else on the Meet page, with a short wait between switches. You can also go Premium with a second companion and keep both.
How do I get help?
Email hello@omoi.chat. If you use Discord, you can also message Izomuy (@yumoo) in the Omoi server.
